I want to come right off the bat and say that this is my opinion and you have the right to agree OR disagree in full or in part with what I am about to say. That's fine. It's my opinion. Now that I've laid down my disclaimer, let me proceed.

Maybe I'm crazy, or creative, or just heavily opinionated, but I'm getting really tired of seeing "twist out" and "blow out" hair styles with natural haired ladies. There's a difference between rocking an afro and rocking a dash out (dash being twist or blow). To me an afro whether big or small is your hair combed out then dabbed down into a nice shape. Most afros are rounded but I'm sure you can do one where the top is less packed than the sides or you add a part/separation to it and angles. A dash out looks cool but has gotten old to me. Maybe like the lost art of handwritting, proper plaits and cornrows have gone out the window as a style. I just feel like natural haired ladies are not exploring the full range of options available for their hair. I recall going to my prom with one of the best hairstyles I had ever seen and I had natural hair. My hairstylist did this intricate side bun with bangs for me all with cornrows. Where is the creativity? Natural hair can be professional, can be creative and can be presentable.

That's my two cents on the matter. I've asked by friend Keba to give her two cents on the matter so she will do a post on it. What's your take on my view of the dash out trend?

You Can Call It A Resolution

While it's great to be fashionable, it's also great to be organised. Today, I shall talk about that dreaded topic of organisation.

I'll come right off the bat and say that I'm organised but not all the time. If you come to my house now, chances are the entire house is clean, tidy and organised with the exception of my bedroom. Although somewhat clean, it is far from organised.

Some tips I've learnt/realized actually help keeping things organised are as follows:

Everything needs a place. You may think is trivial but let me tell you, it's far from it. And it's not just that everything has a place, but that everything has a practical place. It doesn't make sense to dump all your scarves in a basket and then every morning you're digging trying to find a particular scarf. Instead get something, be it a hanger, cork board with hooks or whatever that can hang the scarves up where you can easily access them. If you don't what may happen is you end up draping you scarves on doorknobs and chairs.This leads me into my second tip which I recently found out has a name.
The Ice Cream Effect. Think to when you buy groceries and you have ice cream. When you get home what's the first or one of the first things that get put away? The ice cream. So the ice cream effect is essentially the same principle. Do it right away. As soon as you take off the coat, put it on a hanger and put it in the closet. As soon as you take off the shoes put it on the rack, or line it against the wall. It helps when each thing has a place to go.
The third tip is keep it simple. Don't create an elaborate system that cannot withstand regular stressors of your life. Even if it's as simple as all shoes line up against this wall, or all dresses are hung on the right side of the closet, it will work. Everything still has a place and it's easy to maintain.
Now, with your simplified system let others know. If your friends, family, housemates, partner, etc. don't know the system, how can they follow it? With a simple plan any and everyone can follow it and that lightens your maintenance load and gives you support.

So This Is Christmas...

Hi all. I didn't intend on having a blog post for Christmas but when my friend Sarita tweeted to me and said she can't wait to see the Christmas fashion I had no choice. Challenge Accepted! I only ended up with one outfit for the day. I mean I could show you my nightie swag butttt I'll choose not to hahaha.

Anyway, let me tell you about the outfit. My hair I did for Christmas (regardless of whether I went anywhere). Rocking pipe cleaner curls which I'd like to add are something I refuse to do often because of two reasons: 1. they lose their WOW!! Factor when you wear them too often and 2. because they take so long to do. But yes. No hair accessories, just my curls. Light make up on my face and I am so happy to report that I did my eyebrows!! I feel like a human once again hahaha! I'm wearing a blue cardigan over a grey and white wife beater/vest (whatever you call it) which is tucked into one of my Clothing Swap finds - a brown leather skirt. Because it's cold out and I had to leave my house I added a pair of black leggings. I wore brown ankle boots to my friend's house for dinner. I kept it simple with the jewelry by having a simple gold necklace and large gold loops.

I felt pretty cute for Christmas :-) Merry Christmas to you all and a bright and prosperous New Year!!

It's been a while

One Man's Trash...

Hello Hello! T'is the season to look your best!

With New Years fast approaching, I decided it's high time I got rid of some clothes in my closet. Quite a few things I don't wear at all, and seeing that I don't have enough space in my closet to store everything, it's an even better reason to get rid of some stuff.

Some of the things I own are good, it's just that it's not me any more. I also want to get new clothes because I'm tired of wearing the same thing all the time. So! I've decided that I'm gonna host a clothes swap at my house!

If you don't know what a clothes swap is, I'll tell you. If you do fast forward to the next paragraph hahaha. A clothes swap is essentially a get together where you and some people bring clothes, jewelry, and accessories that you no longer want, but are in a good condition, and swap with each other. So my friend Nelly brought a cute dress that she says doesn't fit her anymore. I like the dress I take it. Nelly may then find a gorgeous handbag that Pam brought and she takes that. You may jut go to the swap to get rid of stuff. There's nothing saying you have to take anything back with you. What doesn't get used will go to charity.

I'm a really finicky person, so for my clothes swap I invited only a handful of friends. As much as I love hand-me-downs I'm not 100% about letting the world know what's going on in my wardrobe. Each friend invited has a slightly different sense of style than the other, so this makes it interesting to see what is taken and how it is adapted.

If you're doing a clothes swap or attending one here are some things to keep in mind:

buttons can be changes. If you see a shirt, blouse, skirt, pants or dress that's missing buttons or has hideous buttons, the can always be changed.
alterations can breathe new life into a piece. Because it has a normal neckline now doesn't mean that after you bring it to the tailor and ask for it to be a V it won't look even better. Keep you creative eye open.
know when it's not worth it. If you're like me, nothing that needs a major alteration should be taken. Why? Because I will never get it done and it will sit there for another year, or until the next swap. Sad but true.

If you have another other fabulous tips about clothes swap, feel free to share it. OH! One last thing. Even if it's done between friends or strangers, still, ALWAYS wash the clothes before wearing them. Just saying...

Progress...A Slow Process

Hey folks. It's exam time hence I'm not doing much fashion based things because I'm focusing on doing my best. I did however, find time to put a tiny addition to my room. This is still being tested out, but I wanted to share it with you guys.

Bamboo tied together across the bed.

I'm hoping to get some stuff to hang from it like a dream catcher and maybe even some Christmas lights. Not sure yet about the lights, but definitely want to dream catcher. I'm also looking into getting some sort of a frame for my bed because it is soooo low to the ground and I literally stand in it and then sit down when I'm going to bed. It's not a good feeling. But yes, progress is a slow process and I'm slowly getting my room to feel like me.

The windows in the corner I'm hoping to make into some sort of a side table or shelf. I just know I need more storage in my room.

Plaits Are In

It is my observation that winter time is the time when I want to style my hair the most (even though realistically I NEED to keep my head covered). I think this is so because I wear so many layers and people can't see my wonderful outfit unless they're in class with me. Anyways. I gave my scalp a little wash and then finally retwisted all my dreads and braided/plaited them. From this style it's going to be so much easier to style my hair because the plaits are very versatile and when I take out the plaits I will have lovely wavy locks. But in the meantime I've been rocking my plaits and receiving a number of compliments from colleagues.

Front view. For once my plaits came out decent. Usually the curl at the end in a crazy way.

I secured a few plaits at the back with a rubberband.

Fresh up! Retwisted and then plaited. Thankfully not too tight!

Progress Report

Hey folks! So I started the Bohemian journey in my room. Gotta celebrate the small accomplishments as well as the big ones right?

I have an "unused corner" in my room which has no furniture or anything so I've decided to use it as an art gallery essentially. What I did was take some twine and create clothes lines on the wall. I'm going to get baby wooden clothes pegs to hang my stuff from, but for the while I'm using regular clothes pegs.

I'm hoping to get a massive floor pillow and put it there. I also want to get some sort of a table or something that can act as a table to add some more storage in the corner.

The Fashionista Does Interiors

As you may or may not know, I moved into a new house a month ago (YAY!!!). My bedroom is a fairly large on and as usual I haven't done any decorating of it as yet...these things always take so long for me to do. But this time I'm going to try hard to get it done before Christmas lol.

The feel I want for my room is Bohemian Chic. To give you an idea of the Bohemian look here are some pictures:

So yes. Hopefully those pictures have provided you with a good idea of what I'm looking to do. I'm not really sure what I want...I just want it to be cool and funky like me. I've been saying for the longest while that I want to build a tent of some sort over my mattress, which is on the floor, so I probably will do that. I might string some Christmas light in the room as well, maybe on the ceiling if I can. But as for colours, I don't know where to start. I'll probably choose a red base, just because I love red and find it so comforting, like soul food.

I'll get working on that so I can show you the before an after pictures of my wonderful space! Wish me luck!! If you have any suggestions of things I could try leave a comment below. You can leave links to photos that might give me some extra inspiration as well.

The Spotted Fashionista Persents the It's A Wrap Challenge!!!

HELLO MY LOVELIES!!

I've finally got this one off the ground. For 30 days, November 1st to 30th, I will be wearing my hair in some sort of a head wrap. It may be simple and it may be complex. The point is, for 30 days I will not show my hair!

I do encourage you to join in with the challenge. Submit you photos to redempressvee@gmail.com and I will share them with everyone else. If you have a blog and you've done the challenge on your blog send me a link and I will gladly share it. I'm making this challenge a little easier. We are allowed to recycle wrap styles. So if you're going to send photos just send of the different styles. If you do one a day, good for you! Send 'em all!!

So to go over the "rules"

Wraps may be reused, but there should be a minimum of 4 styles
Your hair can be partially wrapped, although completely is preferred
Take lots of pictures and share them with me!

Simple And Fun

Hey everyone!!

So I finally decided to do something with my hair today. It's raining cats and dogs outside and I woke up at 6 to get ready for work. For some reason I didn't feel like putting my hair in the usual up do so I separated my hair into two sections and did two big cornrows (or braids, whatever you call them). I fastened the ends with rubbers bands and pinned the ends into the side of the opposite cornrow. My ends are a bit messy and I didn't feel like making this perfect. I like it looking real. I would add a flower to it, but seeing as it's raining so much and I have to go out into the field for a lab later and play with soil, I wasn't sure that was a good idea. So I'm going to cover my head because it's getting cold and I don't want it to be wet, and holy moly I just want to pause and say that there was this massive flash of lightening followed by a thunder rumble that lasted I kid you not 10 whole seconds -_- oh this weather.... But yes, that's my schpeel, here are the pictures!!

I am so sorry everyone! I suddenly moved into a new apartment and hence had to pack and unpack and clean and get all settled in. It was such a whirlwind experience and hence I neglected both my blogs and other responsibilities I had. I think I will have to take a further rain check on the One Month Challenge. But that is not to say that you can't still go ahead with it and share with me what you did for the challenge.

Week 1 - 4 Week Challenge

So I started this a week late because things were just pretty crazy and hectic in my life right now. But at least I'm up and running.

Week One - Nails: For one week either paint each finger and toe nail a different colour OR rock a funky/edgy/cool pattern on your nails.

I honestly don't have a wide variety of colours so I decided to try and mix up the two options for maximum effect. I painted each finger and toe one colour, using all the colours I had and then used another colour to add some dots to make it polka dotted! TA-DA!! Pretty clever aren't I? Have a look and let me know if it works. I know my nail painting skills still have not improved! But I still try =)

So I am going to do a feature on my friends who I love or appreciate their sense of style. I will be taking some shots of them over a period of time and then making posts on them. I will also interview them as well, just asking a few questions whether it be about hair, make up, or general style.

I've Found It!

For now, I have finally decided on what to update or add to my wardrobe. I've been in love with the military fashion for quite some time. I love the look of power, dignity, poise and the sex appeal of it. Soooooo I'm going to get a few pieces to add to my wardrobe. Of course I won't just start always wearing navy blue, black, grey, tan and olive green only. You know me well enough to add my own spin on everything I do. I think that because of my current wardrobe, all I really need are a few key pieces like shoes/boots, jackets and maybe a few accessories.

I can't wait to take out a few shots to show the things I come up with! As well as make up to assist the look.

Hey my lovelies! I haven't posted a hair anything in a while. I went to work like this on Friday although I had a piece of lace with a bow in the front, not the floral bandanna.

Pardon my face lol. T'was a long night lol

What I used for this style is

3 hair elastics
1 hair net
bob/hair pins optional - I didn't use any
and of course something to wrap the front of your hair

Ok! So first I separated my hair in two. Did a high pony and a low pony. With the high pony I made a bun by wrapping the locks around the elastic. I honestly have not mastered the art of making a good bun with my dreads so I use the hair net to secure my bun. If you can do it with a hair net, go for it man! You can use the hair pins to secure the hair net. I just tucked mine under the first hair elastic. I also used a second elastic over the hair net to secure it and give the bun a tighter look. I left the bottom pony dropped and finished the look with my bandanna!

I also feel this style can be used on natural or processed hair. You don't need dreads to do the style!

HELLO MY LOVELIES!!

So I have thought about this for a very long time and I've decided to develop my own to do challenge. I love 30 day challenges but I didn't think I had the patience or umph to come up with 30 things to do. Instead I decided to give 4 main challenges, one for each week and ta-da a one month challenge. It sounds less daunting that way don't you think. So here we go! The Spotted Fashionista's One Month Challenge

WEEK ONE!
Nails: For one week either paint each finger and toe nail a different colour OR rock a funky/edgy/cool pattern on your nails.

WEEK TWO!
Colour: Wear NO BLACK, GREY, TAN or NEUTRAL colours for the week. Underwear and shoes not included.

WEEK THREE!
Scarves: Wear a different scarf in a different way each day. Be creative ;-) !!!

WEEK FOUR!
KAPOWY!: I know you're wondering what the heck is KAPOWY! LOL I just needed something to type there and that seems to work. So for the final week, I want you to dig deep within your closet and pull out those pieces you haven't worn in a long time. Give them a new life. Each day, a different piece should be revamped, reworked and given the reason to stay in the your closet and frequently used clothes. If you can't find a way to use an item...give it away! (Don't throw it out...I feel bad. There are many places that take used clothing).

Hair Rant

Once again I am bitching about my hair and threatening to cut it.

I'm sorry, as much as I love all that I can do with my hair it really is beginning to frustrate me. My hair feels DISGUSTING! and that pisses me off. I don't want to feel oily, gunky, nasty, dirty hair. And I know what you're thinking....just wash your hair. BUT THAT'S WHERE THE PROBLEM LIES!! Washing my hair is such a task! I don't even know how long I spent attempting to wash my hair today and it still feels disgusting. My hai is oily and gunky and then my scalp is dry and flaky...........is that even possible?! Apparently it is.

I wanted to try this vinegar and baking soda cleansing process today because I couldn't take on my hair and I had no baking soda. Yay me :-| I still decided I'm going to rinse it with vinegar. My scalp got it but my hair was still icky. The biggest problem with my hair is the thickness and length combination. I will clean my scalp clean clean and all that stuff from my scalp gets stuck in my locks. Then to wash my locks the top gets clean clean and the bottom and back gets all the gunk from the top! sigh. I don't know what to do. I really don't know. And I am NOT willing to take $30 to go to Toronto and then spend another $60 - $90 if not more to get my hair taken care of. I need to come up with a solution and fast before I take a scissors to my own head and snip it all off.

I do apologize for this big dutty rant about my hair. If you have suggestions please feel free to share.

My friend Keba shared something on my Facebook wall and I loved it so much I figured I have got to share it with you! If you don't have "black hair" or "negro hair" or whatever you call it you might be able to relate to it and find the umph in it, but I'm sure you can appreciate the emotion and love in the statement.

My Staples

There are some things that I've realised are staples to my wardrobe. Previously my obsession was with socks, however it has changed. The following are the two things right now I love having in my closet:

Waistcoats/Vest - whatever you call them. Whether they be denim, pinstripped, satin or cotton, waistcoats offer an extra kapow! to my outfits. I currently have two of them and am on the lookout for more!

Belts - I have so many belts and I still want more!! A belt adds shape to a boxy dress, adds colour to a solid, adds visual detail with a cool buckle. Belts are just amazing!! Here are some of the belts I have

Different Cultures. Different Worlds

In case you didn't know, I've got lenses in my big red frames. Everyone in Canada loves my glasses and think they look so cool. I've spoken to a few friends from back home (in the Caribbean - I say in the Caribbean because they are not all in Saint Lucia) and they all say the same thing "What's that on your face?!" I just roll my eyes and not bother with them because I love my glasses. It just shows you how different the level of tolerance for different is. I know my glasses are HUGE! But they look good on my face and they don't fall off which is part of the reason why I got them...It's not my fault I don't have a nose bridge. Anyway, I am pondering on getting another pair of frames that are black first of all, and a bit smaller...but not tiny! I like having large frames and I will continue to wear them.

Moral of my story (if there is one): Don't be afraid to rock what you want especially if you know it looks good. In next to know time, because of your confidence, others will join you and BOOM! It will be a trend.

Time To Accessorize

Hey Hey Hey!

I got my fingers working again on a little crafty project.

This didn't turn out the way I wanted it to but it still turned out quite fabulous. It's a fascinator!! Pardon my messy hair lol.

The materials I used are:

some scarps of fabric
hot glue gun (and glue sticks)
Tetley tea can cover
flowers
scraps of netting
elastic string

I used this video as a guide. I did pretty much the exact same thing as her but my birdcage came out in reverse when I glued it on (or maybe my netting was just too short in the first place lol, oh well!!). But it still came out cute!

So after much thought and going back and forth, I have finally decided that I am going to keep this blog (yaaaaay!!!!!!), keep my first blog Dancer's Feet and delete my third blog Green Eyes. Green Heart. Whatever I would have discussed in the third blog I can do in the first and I like having my fashion blog separate from my other blog.

Thanks for hanging in there with me!! I really appreciate it! And I shall let the fashion wonders of moi roll. I think I want to redefine my style...but I'm not sure I can pull off what I want to do.

I'm contemplating having a more clean and classic style. The big problem is I'm known for being funky, edgy and eclectic. How do I go from something so expressive and individualized to something so "common" and simple? I don't know. I don't even know if it will suit my personality. Hmmm Let the research began on how I can create something I love that still expresses who I am and my sense of individualization.

It has been such a long while since I've posted anything here. I'm going to work on that. Anywhosss, I finally got hair nets and decided to try an on-the-side bun. I'm not even going to lie, regardless of how cute this style looks, it's so heavy!!! My the left side of my neck was working!! But hey, at least it looks cute...right ;)

I've decided to rock my hair wassy as we say back home (fuzzy, not so well manicured) and this photo is my inspiration.

I'm used to having my dreads manicured, but it's becoming a hassle and I think that if I don't stress I won't get flustered by everything. I'm sure it will be fine. We'll see what happens

Snip Snip?

I feel as if I am at a crossroad in my life. Managing my hair myself is becoming a hassle and I am seriously contemplating cutting it all off. Not trimming it, not cutting it into a style. Cutting it all off and going with a flat cut.

My hair has become such an integral part of my self expression and creativity that I wonder if I will be able to part with it. Another thing is that people have grown to adore my locks...although that in itself doesn't bother me if I cut it. As said earlier, my hair an extension of my self expression. I have had a number of friends who have actually said to me I will stop talking to you if you ever cut your hair, and this upsets me, no joke no lie. This is my hair. I am not my hair. My hair is just an extension of me. So why is it that your definition of me must be upheld by my locks? I just don't get it.

We will see what happens in the upcoming years, whether I cut it or let it continue to grow. I really don't know. The other thing is that my scalp has gotten extremely sensitive because it's not used to the tension when someone else does my hair, so that makes me a little bit skeptical about going to a hair dresser to do my hair. Maybe I will have to go to the dresser to get my locks washed and then style them myself. That might be the best compromise and my biggest worry about them not being cleaned thoroughly would be done.

We will see what happens with my 152 dreadlocks...I'll keep you posted.

Nail Bangs

I decided to give myself a little polish and to add some style to it. It's nothing much and it's definitely not in style with the popular crackle stuff, but I don't care...I never care hahaha. Wrapped In The Earth

How many of us really consider where our clothing comes from? Some of us may say we don't want clothing made in a sweat shop, or we don't want apparel made by children. But what about we don't want synthetic materials against our skin, or genetically modified fabric? Do we ever consider going green not only with cleaning but also with fashion?

Vintage shopping, second-hand shopping, free-market finds all count towards being environmentally friendly as new products are not being created to clothe you. But what about organic clothing? How does that play out in our minds. I've sources some websites and photos with ego/green clothing and you decide. Would you wear it, or would you not?

From Not Just Pretty Organic Clothing here are a few of the designs that I like

Add a lovely belt to give some detailing and ta-da! It could be fabulous. You could also sew on some front pockets in a funky green pattern or one close to that of the trim.

I love shoes with toe-post or foot thongs, however you may know them. And I think this shoe is a pretty one. The question is - is it comfortable?

Now this one is a cute springy/summer dress. If purple's your colour or if you don't detest it, don't you think this would make you want to skip down the road?

Hiiii!! I haven't been as active on the blog scene, so I thought I'd do a random post. I finally gave myself a little pedicure [yaaayyyy]. Today was such a lovely day that I actually sat by the river on a park bench and chilled for about ten minutes and then continued walking home.

The colour I chose for my nails, both toes and finger is Avon's Sunshine. As you can guess it's bright! bright! bright!! Surely puts a smile on my face.

While preparing for the Five Days of Pantlessness challenge I realised that I wear a whole heap of black. So my next challenge as you can guess is going to be Sans Black (Without Black). I am going to challenge myself for I don't know how long a period, to not wear a single black piece of clothing. Jackets will not count nor will accessories like belts and shoes (if possible). I think this would be a very interesting challenge for myself because I do wear black quite a bit. I shall let you know where this challenge shall begin.

My housemate Lindsay dared me to put on as many leopard print pieces as possible so I did. I'm wearing my leopard print scarf on my head, semi-sheer leopard print shirt, leopard print seamless panties on top of a see-through leopard and tiger print footless tights, and finally my beloved leopard print shoes. This is why you don't mix your prints or wear an entire leopard print outfit =D

With my hair I attempted a bun and attached a braided "belt" to the base of the bun. The front of my hair is flat twisted. Just my little something for today : )

I also wore my leopard print dress to the after party...yea, I know, so much for it being my bday dress lol. Oh well. Maybe I'll get another one ;) or just wear it again!! Nothing wrong with that!

Plaited Updo

Hey everyone!

The Trent African and Caribbean Student Union had their formal last night and of course I went and looked all dolled up. I just wanted to share the hair style I was rocking with y'all. To give some suggestions as to what can be done with locks or braids for a divine updo.

I will try my best to explain how I did the style. When next I have time (if ever) I will try to do a video to show how I did it.

First I did four flat twists on both sides of my head. I did four but you can do three, it depends on the size and shape of your head and the size of your locks as well. To secure the flat twists I took two more locks and plaited it all the end.
With the remaining locks I plaited them using 6 locks. I got to a point where I had to use more than 6 like 8 or less than 6 like 4. So use your discretion.
The center plaits at the back I made a spiral with them and pinned them down. The the ends of the flat twists I pinned to the opposite side of the flat twist. So if the twist was on the right side of my head I pinned it to the left.
The top I continued the pinning on the opposite side and used the three plaits closest to my face to create bangs. I did the furthest from my face first and made it do a spiral at the end, then pinned the other two along the spiral and ta- da! That's it!

Please provide feedback for this style. Let me know if you love it or hate it. And I'm so sorry for not getting a photo of the back before I took it out.

A Cute Updo

Hey everyone,

Today I decided to try a new hairstyle I saw on one of my favourite YouTube Lock Gurus Chescalocs. This was done by her new co-channel-person lol. I forgot the right word. I thought it was a really cute way to get bangs that didn't bother my face and to show off my red lock :) So here are some photos of my style.

The back actually happened because of the shower. I went to bathe/shower and didn't want the ends of my hair to get wet so I tied them up and I liked how the style looked from the front so I decided to keep it up. Really cute!!

Twist and Twirls

I happened to watch this video on YouTube that showed how to make a braided/plaited anything from scraps of fabric and so I was "bored" and decided to do a few up with old t-shirts I had laying around the place.

This is the result of the handiwork, and I'm going to look into tie-dying a few pieces of fabric and then braiding it to see how it looks.

I had to. I just couldn't contain myself. I went to Sympathy for the Rebel yesterday to look for possible options for my 5 Days of Pantslessness and sure enough I got a pantslessness item that I wanna show you! There's something about it that I just can't quite put my finger on, but I like these pieces.

The belt I couldn't figure out how to work it in the store, but I knew I wanted it because I just love the buckle so I came home and put on the skirt and did up the belt and this is the end product.

I was thinking maybe if I had a yellow strapless top or a sheer tank with ruffles in the front I could rock it with that. Nice lil taste of summery goodness =)

Nail It For Spring

I have found [according to Refinery29.com] the 6 hottest spring nail polish trends. But I don't like all the colours chosen so The Spotted Fashionista has selected her 6 Nail Colours of Spring 2011. Let's have a quick run through of what I chose.

1! Nature Nudes. Give the illusion of not wearing any. Adds a clean, natural finish to your hand.

2! Blue's Clues. This reminds me of one selected colour by my housemate from Avon called Vintage Blue. It's colour reminds me of stonewashed jeans...the hint of blue they possess. I think that's the best way to describe it.

3! Jaded Reminders. Another Avon selection this shade of green is a wonderful selection to evoke that new birth Spring feeling. This colour have been a 2010 trend, but I don't care...I think it deserves a second round.

4! Carotene Joy. It's that yummy colour in carrots, pumpkin and I can't think of other orange foods that actually have carotene in them [hahaha]. Anyways, I have said from last year that orange needs to be big for Spring, so by all means I'm going to include orange into my 6 Colours For Spring

5! Lavender Love. What can I really say about this one...minic the sweet scents of spring? I was about to ask who doesn't love lavender, but I realised I know some people who don't [hahaha]. But in any case the soothing feel of the lavender colour is a lovely way to easy out of those darn winter blues and into the festive spring.

6! Gun-Metal. I don't really know what to say about this one...so here's the picture!

Pants Are For The Weak

Hey everyone! So three of my housemates and I are embarking on a challenge (planned for when it's warmer).

The challenge is dubbed "5 Days of Pantlessness." The idea behind it is for five days we wear no pants or jeans. Shorts are permitted and leggings/tights as pants are not. For five days we will take photos together to show off our outfits and share them with you. This should be really interesting because we all have such different styles. We're all looking forward to the days of warmer weather and hope you enjoy our endeavour as well.

Disaster Has Struck

Well...that's Canada for you.

So my only form of a camera is gone - my cell phone had a snow party and now won't do anything but shine a red light like the battery is dying, even though it's been plugged in for 2 days now. That's very sad and unfortunate. Do have a webcam but for some odd reason I can't get it to take pictures or videos unless it's on Facebook or something of that sort.

I don't know what else to do. I guess I might have to ask someone to use their camera briefly every so often.

May this day be filled with visual memories for you.

Heads Up!!

I have decided that today I'm going to be really creative and experiment with my image. I have seen tutorials and photos of turbans worn as fashion now and I've caved and decided to give it a whirl.

Using a regular scarf that I have, I tied a knot in the front of my head and the ends of the scarf I twisted around each other and secured at the back. Hands of A Lady

My hands are borderline disgusting to me and I'm sad. My cuticles are dry and splitting [sigh] and yes I am depresssssed by this. I've decided to do some research on cuticle care. The types that I have found are:

1. Keep cuticles from drying out. Apply a moisturizer each time you wash your hands, and don't use nail polish remover more than once a week; it's too drying.

2. Wear cotton-lined rubber gloves when using household cleaning products.

3. If cuticles look ragged, gently rub away dead skin with a soft washcloth. Never push cuticles too harshly and fight the urge to bite your cuticles.

4. Be sure that your nail technician sterilizes all tools used during a manicure, or bring your own. Notice if the stations are clean, if the nail technician washes her hands between clients and if her license is displayed.

5. If you have an inflammation or an infection, see a dermatologist or podiatrist for a topical antifungal or antibacterial cream, or prescription oral antifungal like Lamisil tablets.

Finally! Thrift Shopping!

So my lovelies. I have finally engaged in thift shopping. I went to this little store called Sympathy For The Rebel. It actually was not as overwhelming as I thought it would have been. I saw some really interesting things :| and some really lovely things.

The one lesson I have learnt from this store is that you can't always have what you want when thrift shopping. I say this because you may find something amazing and lovely but they only have one of the item, and it's not in your size. There truly is nothing else you can do about it unless it's not too off that you can adjust it to fit you.

I shall definitely be going back to this lovely store for little odds and ends and for some awesome unique vintage gift ideas.

Of course, I know you're all anxious to see the pix of the item I purchased. It's my very first pair of high waist pants.

I just wanted to share a quick post to say that the curls are still there (as the photos in the previous post will show). Some of them are almost gone but I believe that is because either 1. I didn't roll them tightly enough or 2. I pulled too hard when I was removing the pipe cleaners. These actually last a lot longer than anticipated. Nice!!

FINALLY! I got pipe cleaners!! Soooo happy!!

Okay now that I'm done freaking out I want to share with you my newest hair do. With damp hair I rolled my locks around pipe cleaners. I believe you can use black or brown or a colour that matches your locks as opposed to what I have which are really crazy. I might actually go out with it LOL. Any whos... i bent the pipe cleaners in two and leaving a little loop at the half way bend, I wrapped the rest of the cleaner down to the end around itself. So it looks like a loop basically lol. Kinda like those you would use for a curtain or something with a hook! Sorry I don't have more pictures with it. I can't find Coco my phone, which is now my camera since my camera is down. The pictures I took were taken with my webcam and from Facebook...it's a sad sad life sigh. Right!! So here's a picture of the do with the cleaners in them (don't I look fabulous!!? lol)

And here are the lovely curls without the cleaners.

This style took a bit of time, so I won't be rocking fresh curls any time soon. Sigh. But special occasions, yeah!! I already have one event in mind that I'm going to rock it at. I'm going to put up another picture when they start to drop and separate so you guys can see how they look!

HOLY MOLY!!!! I wish I had a picture to accompany this post, but sadly I don't. AnYwHoS I just wanted to let everyone know that I found a gorgeoussss pair of Stacey glasses in my favourite colour - RED! Of course I tried them on and they were perfect! And the beauty of them is that it actually real. I can wear it without the lens for now and when I get my eyes checked I can actually put the lens in and have them transitions too. I'm sooo excited!! They must BE MINE!!

I Gave In

I went shopping today. I really needed the "retail therapy". I'm happy though, of course I am, but seriously I bought things that 1. I needed and 2. I've wanted for a long time. Eventually I will get pix with these up, but for now I'll just list them.
Finally! I got nude lipstick and let me tell you I LOVE IT! I think it will look soo wonderful when I do up my face and have a neutral lip and simple eyes or dramatic eyes. And speaking of face, I got some face powder as well...it was about damn time. I like this colour I got because it makes me look less pale - yay!!
I got a pair of boots. They're not anything fancy fancy but I think they look okay. Anddd I also got a little cardiganny thingy in this lovely olive military green colour. Thinking ahead to my Expensive's Valentine Night Out, I'm now looking for black straight pants/jeans and a cream preferably lace long sleeved top, but cream is the colour of choice. I'm so excited!!

Simple hair do

I rinsed my hair when I showered yesterday with some lime juice (as in I squeezed limes over my hair). I figured I would do a braid out the next day (today) so I plaited the locks and put rubber bands at the ends to hold them secure. I woke up this morning and was semi-rushing to catch the bus so instead of undoing the plaits I just styles them. This is the result

Green Fashion

Christmas is around the corner and of course I'm thinking of great gift ideas for my friends, and even for persons I probably would not have already gotten gifts for. I'm not going to say who I'm thinking of giving this to, but I will say this tutorial is pretty cool. If your mom has those old shirts with the shoulder pads, cut them off and use them instead of just getting rid of them. I recently developed a new alter ego named Stacey. It was really exciting to live through Stacey's persona. The more I lived her, the more I liked her. She is this slightly fashion conscious, eclectic persona with a little extra flair in her and her spirit. Being Stacey makes me really happy and makes me smile, so I am seriously contemplating just being Stacey all the time, or rather making Stacey a permanent part of Shani.

The main identification mark of Stacey is her glasses. So in order for me to truly be Stacey all the time I need to be rocking the glasses. I need actual glasses, so I think I am going to get glasses like that when I eventually get my glasses. I'm really excited for this. And the glasses as well as being crafty and thrifty, this is going to be a fabulous exercise of self expression!

New Toys!

I'm an Avon Rep and I recently placed an order for my clients and got a bonus, some of which I'm keeping for myself (duhh) and the rest I'm giving as Christmas gifts (yay! less shopping for me =D). So I wanted to share with you guys the goodies that I'm keeping.

Lipstick! Okay, maybe not everyone loves lipstick, but I do. I don't like lip gloss. That's my personal taste. I'm not hating on anyone who hates lipstick but loves lip gloss. So the colour I got is called Ultra Colour Rich Rose Gold or Rose

Nail Polish! I'm not as obsessed about nail polish as other people are, but I do have my moods. I got two colours - Jade and Golden Sand.

Encouragement When You Least Expect It

I'm weird.

I'm a really confident person but it always surprises me when I get certain compliments from people who I have never met before, or from places I don't expect it. Today I logged on to Facebook and got a friend request and attached message from someone I had never met before. The message I received made me smile and lightened my mood significantly.

I dress and present myself in a manner that makes me stand out (in a good I think) as an individual, and not blend in with the crowd. And today I was reminded that I'm doing a good job. This message from Cinnamon (isn't that an awesome name) couldn't come at a better time, well maybe it could have, but in all essence it came at a good time lol. I recently got my off campus work permit and am eligible to work in Canada outside of the school, so I'm applying to places downtown to work. The first I've applied to is an edgy, cool, sophisticated shoe and accessory store and in my cover letter I said that I don't follow the trends, but I do wear what feels comfortable and works with my personal style. Cinnamon's message reminded me that I am cool and in my own way fashionable and that in a room full of women, I probably would stand out in a good way. Her message also reminded me that my expression of who I am inspires others to experiment with their looks and themselves essentially.

Can I say I'm a role model or an inspiration to many? I'm not too sure about that, although others may say yes. What I know I can say is that I will continue to be me and expressing me however I see fit.

I challenge you to break the mould given to you by society and express yourself. Be creative. Have a signature piece, a signature style. Be you and rock it!

Another Do -- I'm on a roll

Hey my lovelies, so I was kinda fooling around this morning and got this cute hair do that I wanted to share with you. I started retwisting my locks and greasing my scalp and stopped lol. I did four rows and did two cornrows with the rows I had retwisted. Then I did a half Farrah Fawcett. But I didn't really feel like leaving the rest outside, so I took my little white hat and tucked the back and ends of everything in it. Here's the look, sorry for looking so scruffy, and yes, I'm dying too because of my manly eyebrow :@ gotta fix them!!

Say Hello To Stacey

Hey everyone. Those people who I have on Facebook know I love to change my name or in another words I have many alter-egos. They range from Penelope Jones to Ras Ianthye and the latest Stacey. I haven't come up with a surname for Stacey as yet, but I'm working on it.

So the quick story behind Stacey is that I went to a concert last night and I was wearing these 3D glasses (which have the words Real 3D on it lol but I don't care) and had this cute!!! outfit on when two [drunk] guys approached my girls and myself. We were more or less standing in a line and the guys went down the line asking us our names before entering into conversation with us. My first friend gave her real name (to my surprise to be honest), the second gave the second half of her full name which she never uses, and of course I had to give a bogus name (Stacey). I think the look plus the name just fitted well and so my latet alter-ego was born lol. She's pretty eclectic and is a tiny bit flamboyant but not so much. I'm sure we will be seeing a lot more of Stacey in the future.

Waste Not Want Not

So this post was done on my other blog, but I decided to put it up here also because it's such a great beauty idea :)

Ok peeps. It's the end of October and yup you guessed it...It's Halloween time. For those of you who celebrate/commemorate Halloween and do the whole pumpkin carving I found this cool recipe for a pumpkin facial mask that you can use with your pumpkin's gut. Reduce your waste and look good while doing it - now that sounds like a great deal to me. Pumpkin Facial Mask
2 teaspoons cooked or canned pumpkin
1/2 teaspoon honey
1/4 teaspoon milk (or whipping cream, if your skin is very dry)

1. Combine ingredients and apply to a clean face with gentle circular motions, avoiding the area around your eyes.

2. Allow mask to remain on skin for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse with warm water, pat dry, and apply your usual moisturizer.

Pumpkin, Sugar, and Spice Scrub
1/2 cup cooked or canned pumpkin, pureed
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1. Combine ingredients in a bowl.

2. Stand in a tub or shower stall and use a damp washcloth to scoop some of the mixture up. Apply to body, starting with your feet and working your way up, but avoiding your face. Scrub gently using circular motions.

3. Rinse with warm water and pat dry

So yes, and I'm sure after doing these you won't need to apply perfume. You will have this awesome scent of pumpkin and spice. How delicious :D

Twists and Twirls

Hey hey hey!!!

So I tried this hairstyle which was super easy more or less lol. All I used was hair pins. I basically just sectioned my hair and twisted it around like I was trying to curl it and then pinned it where I wanted. It took a bit of time to get it in the shape in the picture, but that's the beauty of it, you can just take out the section with the pin in the end and stick it somewhere else until you're happy with what you've created.

All Natural Hair Treatment

One way being environmentally friendly and still looking sexy is by using natural beauty products orrrr even better, making them yourself with things you have at home. This treatment is a very common one to me, and I wanted to share it with you. Materials:
* 1 large egg
* 3/4 cup mayonnaise
* 1/2 tbsp. olive oil
* shower cap (or plastic bag)

Instructions:

Crack 1 egg into the medium bowl and beat. Add 3/4 cup of mayonnaise and 1/2 tbsp. of olive oil and mix until smooth.

Wash hair thoroughly and distribute mixture evenly throughout damp hair. Put a thicker layer on brittle ends.

Pile hair on top of the head using a small clasp or pin. Cover with the shower cap to trap heat and open hair follicles.

Leave mixture in hair for 10 to 15 minutes. Allow the hair pack to come to room temperature.

Rinse hair thoroughly with cool water until hair is completely clean.You may have to wash it lightly to ensure that all the egg is out (especially if you have dreads. You don't want them to be smelling of egg). Dry and style as usual.

There you have it! A lovely all natural treatment for your luscious locks :-)

Half Farrah Fawcett

Hey Divas

So I have finally tried another hair do and was satisfied, more or less, with it and wanted to share it with you. So here we go. The only things I used for this were hair gel, but locking gel or anything of that sort can be used and 3 hair pins. My locks are a bit wavy from a braid out I did on Friday, but the style can be rocked with straight locks for sure.

I began by flat twisting the side of my head. Four flat twists were done using a little bit of gel to make it look fresshhh.

Next I swept the remaining locks on the other side and took a few from the top to create a loose bang. Then under that, I took the ends of the locks below the bang, along my hairline and did the same bang-like thing. I did this a third time. They all are fastened with hair pins.

And there you have it. My Half Farrah Fawcett Hair do.

Maybe I should do the whole Farrah Fawcett so you can decide? lol.

Mini Update

So Divas, I've just been so busy that I haven't really tried anything new or anything like that. Just wanted to let you guys know that I have been rocking my dreads wavy from Friday if I'm not mistaken. I think I'm gonna do this for a bit longer. I like it and other people do too. I've received a few compliments. No camera available for you to have a peep as to how it looks.

If you want to know how to do it, all you really need to do is plait/braid (whatever you call it) damp locks and let it dry. I think for the best results either you leave it overnight or for an entire day, in case you're going out in the evening. A variation is you can cornrow the front of your hair and plait the back and it works just as well.

I'm hoping to try some new styles too soon. So when that goes down, I shall let you know :)

Green Challenge

Hi there my lovely fashionistas. I am challenging myself to a life long challenge. I know I won't exactly stick with it til death do me part, but I want to try beyond my hardest.

This challenge is steamed from an article I have to read for class and what I believe is my responsibility as a citizen of the world and as a consumer. A Bow Sits On A Present :-)

Hey Divas, I'm am finally back with a post on my hair! I've been wanting to do this style for quite some time but all the tutorials I saw on youtube just couldn't help me out. I didn't follow the entire tutorial, I just wanted to do the bow itself. Here is a photo of it

What I did was section off the part I wanted the bow to be over into a ponytail. separated it into two. Place rubber bands at the ends of the two parts, attaching a hair pin through the rubber bands to ensure that it stays pinned. I pinned them backwards to make the bow and to cover my hair elastic I pulled some hair through the center from the back and kind of tucked it around the elastic to hide it. The folding over method wasn't really cutting it for me. And there you have it! My Hair Bow...sorry, I kinda refuse to call it a Lady Gaga Bow.

Sorry I don't have the usual round about photos of the entire thing. My camera is miles away in St. Lucia while I'm here at school in Canada, so I used my webcam to get a quick pic. Enjoy!

Recycling Is Pretty Cool

So I got this skirt from a friend which I hate. The materials are pretty cool, but as a skirt, I just don't like it. Don't like the way it fits, so I'm turning this dreaded skirt into a handbag (hopefully and eventually lol). I've cut the bottom of the skirt and was going to probably throw away the remaining fabric. But one day I was in a hurry to leave the house and wanted something to secure my hair. I grabbed the scrap of fabric which was still stitched as the bottom of the skirt. During a game of Quelf I gave my hair accessory to someone to wear as a necklace. He put it on and it looked like a pretty cool scarf to me, so I'm going to now wear it as a summery/early fall scarf. The fabric is too light to be a winter scarf unless I double it with another scarf or something.

But here it is :) What do you think? Pretty cool eh? Rate and comment!

"Eye" See

I purchased my very first tube (bottle? whatever it's really called lol) of liquid eyeliner. I've been curious to get that liquid eyeliner look for quite some time. I've decided that because it's my first time I will use a traditional black. I purchased Avon's Perfect Wear Eyewriter. I looked online for tips on for applying liquid eyeliner and for getting the best looks with it. Here a few that I've come across:

* To make the line longer-lasting you should apply the eyeliner over your eyeshadows.
* In case you make a mistake use a cotton pad and a mild makeup remover to correct it.
* Never apply liquid eyeliner to the lower lash-line, use pencil eyeliner instead.
* Always start the application in the centre of your eyelash line on the upper eyelid.
* Keep your hand steady – this way it will be easier for you to apply the eyeliner flawlessly. [I've been told that if you keep your hand on a table or something sturdy it helps]
* Remember: eyeliner should be applied as close to the lash-line as possible.
* Never create too thick line at first, build the line gradually.
* When selecting liquid eyeliner, always make sure you choose one that dries fast in order to avoid smudges.
* Before applying liquid eyeliner, always shake the tube for a few seconds.
* Most of the makeup artists advice first to draw a few dashes with a pencil eyeliner and then to apply the liquid eyeliner.
* Remember: always apply the liquid eyeliner after the eyeshadows, but before the mascara to prevent smudges.
* Remember: for liquid eyeliner always use a point liner brush as it will allow you to draw an even line.
* Never keep your liquid eyeliner in the bathroom as water may trap in it.
* Remember: always let the eyeliner dry before you open your eye.
* Never apply eyeliner if your eyes are tired or infected.
* Harmonize the eyeliner with your mascara, so that it frames your eyes and makes your lashes look thicker.

These Boots Were Made For Walking

I am determined to purchase a pair of boots this year, or rather as soon as I am able lol. Part of the reason why I've never gotten a pair is because I don't really know what makes a good boot, or what to look for in a boot. So I have scoured the internet looking for tips for wearing boots and here is the collection I have gathered that makes sense to me.

1. When wearing knee-high boots, the widest part of your calf should fit snugly. Ill-fitting boots are very unflattering as they add bulk to your calves

2. Stick to skinny jeans when wearing boots over denim. Stuffing looser-cut jeans into boots often causes the denim to bunch and makes your thighs look chunky.

3. Boots trap more heat, causing your feet to perspire more, so never go barefoot in them. Wear thin socks or hosiery as they will absorb perspiration and prevent your feet from smelling. The socks can also prevent blisters caused by damp feet rubbing against the inside of the boots. This is a good tip especially for as I confess to having sweaty feet which can become quite horrendous when I remove my shoes

4. To keep your boots in good condition, stuff them with newspapers to retain their shape when not in use. This will also prevent creases from forming.

5. Clothes to Avoid Wearing with Ankle Boots

* Cropped Pants
* Cropped Tights
* Mid-Length Skirts with Bare Legs
* Pencil Skirts
* Shorts
* Capris

A Splash of Colour

I have pondered on this for such a long time, and finally I have not only got the courage to decide I'm going to do it, but I've actually gathered the courage to do it. I have decided to dye the ends of my hair...Raging Red! The colour was chosen for a number of reasons including red being my favourite colour and my pet name from my boyfriend. After much discussion and deliberation we dyed a few locks from roots to tips and the ends of others. Maybe the next time I'll just dye my entire head lol. But what a task that will be.

Boho Chic

So I'm on a mission to rework my wardrobe, jazz it up a bit. Easiest way to begin this is by looking at styles that appeal to you. I have many moods (I think it's more polite to say that than multiple personalities) and one of those moods is laid back, cool, calm, really relaxed. I think Boho Chic fits in well with this mood. So some of the ensembles I've come across that I like are as follows.

Kate Moss

So I just really love the entire look, well maybe excluding the sunglasses, but whatever...not important. The cropped jacket paired with the top, wonderful. And the pattern is alluring. Indeed, I can definitely rock this.

Nicole Richie

I think out of all of them, the two end pictures are the best. I must say I love the oversized clutch she has with the blue dress. I like the simplicity of the two looks, the easy goingness you get from just looking at the pictures. Hmm.

Ok, let it be known, the way they wear those headbands...that's a no no for me personally. You won't see me wearing that thing like that. But apart from that, love the cool colours, accessories and everything except the shoes...but that's just my preference for toe posts.

Spotted Fun

I love leopard print, hence the name of the blog being the Spotted Fashionista, but there are some things I won't be caught dead doing. Classic example: like Lady Gaga in her Telephone video, wearing a leopard print jumpsuit with a leopard print hat and platform leopard print boots....that's going waaaaaay overboard in my eyes. I want to encourage people to wear exotic prints, not only leopard, but cheetah, zebra, tigre, whatever floats your boats and appeals to your inner animal. If you're going for the leopard and cheetah, here are a few tips to help you step out and be a Diva.

•To wear leopard print clothing effectively, you will have to have the right kind of makeup and hair. Leopard print clothing is a very bold animal print that says the wearer is very sexy and loves fashion. Makeup should include a good foundation, smoky eye and nude lips.

•There should only be one item that has leopard print. Leopard print from head to toe is very unflattering because it gives the impression of being in the zoo. Leopard is a very bold and eye catching pattern that will catch everyone's attention instantly. Even with one item, it is more than enough for one woman to pull off.

•Leopard print clothing should be matched with other solid colored clothes. The best color here is solid black. For example, you can pair a long leopard print blazer with black skinny jeans or black leggings with high heels. It is classy, sexy and appropriate at the same time.

•The fabric of leopard print clothing is important as well. In general, it should be a thicker material with very rich leopard printing. Lighter fabric leopard print clothing will not work on most women and body types. Lighter and softer materials make people feel like it is made for the summer. Leopard prints are not very suitable for hot summers.

•Leopard print accessories are very good fashion items that can add sexiness to any outfit and will not overwhelm the whole look. It is much easier to pull off leopard print accessories because they cover smaller areas of the body. It will go best with solid colored simple design outfits because too many prints and patterns do not make any woman look classy.
